About

“Shades of Sydnee” alludes to the vast creative spirit and expertise that have allowed Sydnee Thompson to succeed as a well-versed communications and media professional. Whether editing or writing, she can provide tailored solutions to fit any client’s vision and budget.

Sydnee graduated summa cum laude from Wayne State University in May 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with honors. That summer, she was selected to enter the Dow Jones News Fund’s News Editing internship program. After an intensive one-week editing workshop at Temple University, Sydnee then traveled to New York City to copyedit full time on the The New York Times’ Foreign and National news desk from June to August 2014. Upon returning to metro Detroit, she accepted another full-time copy editing internship position at The Detroit News from October 2014 to January 2015, where she edited arts and entertainment, local, and national news. Simultaneously, she has worked remotely in the publishing industry for companies such as HarperCollins and Lee & Low. Since 2013, she has completed editing and proofreading passes on dozens of now-published genre fiction novels.

Most recently, Sydnee worked as a copy editor for Buzzfeed News from 2021 to 2023; before that, she was as a copy editor at Hour Media LLC, a metro Detroit-based magazine company. Although her editing and writing work transcends categories, fiction is her first love, and romance, suspense, and fantasy are her favorite genres. She is a member of ACES: The Society for Editing.

Her hobbies include painting, taking naps, and staring pensively out a window while it rains.
